Exhibition "Hammershoi, the master of Danish painting" from 14 March to 22 July 2019, near the hotel Jardin de Villiers
The Jacquemart-André museum, property of the Institut de France, presents, in a magnificent mansion of the Second Empire, collections of works of art worthy of the greatest museums. Often compared to the Frick Collection of New York, it has kept all the atmosphere of a large home, which makes it a unique place in Paris.
In the spring of 2019, the grand master of Danish painting, Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916) will be honored at the Musée Jacquemart-André. For the first time in 20 years, the mysterious and poetic works of the painter will be gathered in Paris.
Discovered in Paris at the Petit Palais in 1987 and Orsay in 1997, Hammershøi fascinates with his paintings depicting empty and subtle interiors where sometimes appears the silhouette of a woman back, in ranges of gray and white.
The paintings on display will evoke the whole of Hammershøi's work and its deep and mysterious atmosphere.
Some forty works will reveal the mysterious and poetic universe of the artist. Unpublished works from the Ambassador John L. Loeb Jr. Danish Art Collection, rarely exhibited during the major international retrospectives dedicated to Hammershøi, will be presented for the first time in France.
